MDC Group successfully delivered a large-scale workplace re-stack and cultural shift for Optivo Housing, supporting the introduction of hot-desking and a more agile way of working through smart office design.
Our Approach
We delivered the project across 4 phases, spanning 10 floors and completed within 16 weeks. One key logistical challenge was coordinating staff moves every weekend to maintain business continuity.
The brief involved relocating teams from Viridian’s Clapham HQ and « re-stacking » existing staff at Grosvenor House in Croydon. In total, we transformed 55,000 sq ft of workspace, moving nearly 1,000 staff across two live buildings.
MDC Group led the full redesign of the 10-storey building, introducing colour-zoned floors inspired by natural elements, developed through a 4-week consultation with client project champions.
The project also introduced a new hot-desking culture, supported by room-booking technology and flexible meeting spaces. We secured cultural buy-in to remove personal pedestals (with exceptions for department managers), and completed the project by refurbishing all toilets and tea points to improve the day-to-day user experience.
