Our guide to falling in love with your job again… helping you put the spice back in places it went missing in action!
It’s completely normal to feel slightly stressed or de-motivated at work. I mean, when you have to think about work as well as: the house, bills, deadlines, bills, the kids, bills, make or break meetings… oh and did I mention bills? Life can get stressful which needless to say can leave you feeling a little negative about a job that you may actually love.
So, in the spirit of the season of love we thought we’d create a mini guide to help you fall in love with your job again!
1. PLASTER YOUR SPACE WITH IMAGES OF LOVED ONES
Okay so maybe you shouldn’t entirely “plaster” your cubicle or desk with images of loved ones (that might be a little creepy), but having a reasonable number of images pinned to the wall nearest to you can really help make work that little bit easier! That picture of you and your partner smiling in each other’s arms might just be what you need to see after a horrible meeting. Or that picture of you and your kids from your favourite holiday could be just what you need when you’re stressing over a deadline. Try it, it really will make all the difference!
2. SET YOURSELF NEW GOALS & CHALLENGES
Occasionally we find that something that worked four months ago just doesn’t work anymore, and that’s okay! If you’re finding that the goals you had set for yourself are just not feasible or are not stretching you enough, then change them! You’re not a loser, you’re not a quitter, you’re just a responsible individual reassessing a situation and seeing how you can progress in a different way. Stretch yourself, push yourself… CHALLENGE YOURSELF! It could be just what you need to reignite that flame.
3. PRACTISE SELF-CARE OUTSIDE OF WORK!
What you do outside of work matters just as much as what you do in work; and self-care is something we should all be exercising if we don’t do it already! As the number of people suffering with mental health conditions continues to rise, it’s even more important than ever to think about how you can really look after yourself. So that manicure and pedicure you’ve been putting off: get it done. That weekend away you wanted to book: book it! Or that book you’ve been meaning to take some time out to read: make some time to read it! A little bit of self-care could be all you need to feel far more positive about your job.
4. ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT/ NEED!
Indeed, the workplace isn’t always the easiest place to navigate but we often shoot ourselves in the foot by just assuming that we won’t be heard. Oftentimes, bosses know that in order to be successful they need to keep their staff engaged and motivated which means listening to their needs. So if there’s something that will help you perform better at work and help you fall in love with work again then speak up! If you get a no then not to worry, no harm done… but just imagine if you got a yes!
